Selma Native Dies At Age 81

Mary Vig Jeffries Countryman, age 81, of 705 Clearview Drive, Vinton, Virginia went to be with her Lord and her family on Friday, September 2, 2016.

Mary succumbed to a very long illness and passed away at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.

Mary was born on August 31, 1935 in Selma, Virginia.

Mary is preceeded in death by her parents, Charles Woodard and Lillian Caroline Pace Jeffries, and a brother, Donald H. Jeffries.

She is survived by her special friend of over forty years, James A. "Jimmy" Defibaugh of Covington; a son, Charles R. "Ricky" Countryman, Sr. of Clifton Forge; a daughter, Lisa Gail Countryman and special friend, Stephanie Munoz of Roanoke; a grandson, Staff Sergeant Charles R. Countryman, Jr., United States Army, and wife, Lela; two great grandsons, Justice Countryman and Cade Countryman; a great granddaughter, Madison Marie Countryman; a brother, Charles Calvin Jeffries and wife, Dorothy; a sister, Brenda Lee Downey and husband, Bobby; six nieces; and three nephews.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to The American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106A, Roanoke, Virginia 24018 or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1020 Carrington Place, Charlottesville, VA 22901.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Glenn Clements officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday morning one hour prior to the service at Nicely Funeral Home.
