Obituary for Volney Beckner McClure, Jr. Volney Beckner McClure, Jr.
Glasgow Resident Worked With Burlington Industries, Sprint

Volney Beckner McClure, Jr., 72, of Glasgow, Virginia died Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 28, 1943 to the late Volney (Bruddy) B. McClure Sr. and Dorothy Slusser McClure.

Volney was preceded in death by his wife of forty-eight years of loving marriage, Fay Conner McClure.

He is survived by two daughters, Tara Dee McClure and Suzanne Nicole McClure and Shannon Pooley; two grandchildren, Cameron McClure and Montana Pooley, and two great-grandchildren, Trent Stanley McClure and Colt Ryder McClure; one sister, Sue McClure Ney and husband, Ronald; two sisters-in-laws, Tobie Anne Snow and Kathy Conner Faulkner and husband, Robbie.

After attending Bridgewater College, Volney worked at Burlington Industries in Glasgow, and then retired from Sprint after many years.

He was a member of Glasgow Presbyterian Church, Short Hill Hunt Club, an avid hunter, and golfer, where he was a member of the Vista Links in Buena Vista.

In his younger years he was active in the Glasgow Rescue Squad.

A private family graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Glasgow Cemetery.

Family and friends are welcome to visit with the family following the service at Volney's home at 25 Horse Country Lane in Glasgow.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Glasgow Life Saving or Glasgow Fire Department.
