Retired Bacova Postmaster Dies At Age 96

Marvin Franklin Pursley, 96, of 9540 Jackson River Turnpike, Hot Springs, Virginia died Monday, October 10, 2016 at Bath Community Hospital, Hot Springs, Virginia.

He was born November 10, 1919 in Bacova, Virginia, the son of the late Jesse Pursley and Lena Violet Broce Pursley.

Mr. Pursley was a retired postmaster in Bacova.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II.

He was an avid Washington Redskin fan. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Marvin loved animals and enjoyed watching them.

He was married to the late Marie Hiner Pursley, who preceded him in death on August 25, 2013.

He is survived by a daughter, Michele Decerf of Belgium; a grandson, Anthony-Maxence De Valiere of Belgium; a niece, Vicki Pursley Grutter and friend, James Henry Ailstock of Bacova, Virginia; two nephews, Edward Lee Pursley and wife, Mendy of Weyers Cave, Virginia.

Richard Pursley and wife, Julia of Greensboro, Maryland; a friend and caregiver, Jerry "Wimpy" Taylor of Hot Springs, Virginia.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Pursley and Curtis "Abe" Pursley; and a sister, Edna Osborne.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 14, 2016 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor Dick Boyer officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be James Ailstock, Jerry "Wimpy" Taylor, Glen Bailey, Peter Judah, and Carl Chestnut.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
