Scott County Native Was Retired Alleghany County Public School System Worker

Sonia June Johnson Wolfenbarger, age 77, of 1907 Oakwood Drive, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Friday, October 21, 2016 at The Hundley Center in South Hill, Virginia.

She was born December 11, 1938 in Scott County, Virginia to the late Virgil Houston Johnson and Mary Elizabeth Brooks Johnson Rollins.

She was a retired cafeteria worker with thirty-five years in the Alleghany County Public School System.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, in Clifton Forge, where she served as a deaconess and a former Sunday School teacher, and also sang in the choir.

She loved her family, especially her granddaughters.

She was an avid gardener, and loved baking and crochet. She enjoyed her time at the beach, taking walks and looking for shells and shark teeth.

In addition to her mother and father, Sonia was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Boyd Wolfenbarger.

She is survived by a son, Stanley Alan Wolfenbarger and wife, Sharon of South Hill; a brother, Samuel Johnson of Spring City, TN; two granddaughters, Lauren Cozart and husband Kevin of Winterville, NC, and Taryn Cameron and husband, Michael of South Hill; a niece and a nephew, and her special friends and neighbors, Reba Mandeville and Ruth Keyser.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Mr. Chris Fisher officiating.

Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Michael Cameron, Kevin Cozart, Larry Hipes, Jason Johnson, John Mandeville, Steve Keyser, Paul Dameron, and Richard Gusler.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, and other times at the residence, 1907 Oakwood Drive, Clifton Forge, VA. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Southside Rescue Squad, 810 W. Atlantic St, South Hill, VA 23970-1808, or to the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 419, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
