Obituary for Alfred Lee Helton Alfred Lee Helton
Korean War Veteran Worked With Hercules, AET Over 40 Years

Alfred Lee Helton, 82, of 121 S. Alleghany Ave., Covington, Virginia died Friday, October 28, 2016, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 17, 1934, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Robert D. and Mary Pollard Helton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Glendell Wallace Helton, in 2014; two brothers, Joseph Helton and Milton Helton and a sister, Fannie Wright.

Mr. Helton served with the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was an employee of the former Hercules, Inc. and retired from AET in the Shipping Department after over 40 years with the companies.

He was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church, where has served as usher, member of the church choir, Trustee of the Church, Member of the Men's Fellowship Class and was recently honored as an Emeritus Member of the Church.

Surviving are his son, Alfred L. Helton, Jr. of Covington; his daughter, Denise Helton of Covington; one granddaughter, Danielle Helton of Covington; one grandson, Christian Helton of Covington; two brothers, Harry Helton and his wife, Joyce, of Covington and Fred Helton of Georgia and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2016. at 1:00 p.m. in the Pine Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Harper officiating.

The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery with graveside rites being conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family will receive friends for one prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.

The Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
