Obituary for Carl Gene Slaughter Carl Gene Slaughter
He Always Helped Others In Need; Family Was Important

Our beloved father and (Pop Pop), Carl Gene Slaughter, went to be with his Eternal Heavenly Father on November 29, 2016, after a sudden illness.

He was a longtime resident of Brentwood, Covington, Virginia, with his most recent home at the Brian Center in Low Moor, Virginia, for many years.

He was loved by many and never met a stranger. He was always helping others in need, providing food through the Church Food Bank or making sure that others at the nursing home were well cared for and happy. He was a longtime and dedicated fan of the Washington Redskins and Virginia Cavaliers.

He was born in Gauley Bridge, West Virginia, on August 31, 1941, and was a graduate of Fayetteville High School.

He joined the United States Navy and was stationed on the USS Coral Sea, aircraft carrier. He was a former employee of Hercules, Inc. and AET.

He volunteered with the Covington Rescue Squad and coached many youth Little League football, basketball, and baseball teams. You could find him in the stands of AHS sports events encouraging Karra and Jason to do their best and consoling them in defeat, telling them to try harder and keep going.

He was a longtime member and Deacon of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church and had a strong faith in God and Eternal Life.

His family was always very important to him and he provided strength, support and continuous unconditional love.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Emma Whittington Slaughter, and a brother, Larry Slaughter.

Surviving are his son, Jason Slaughter and wife, Jena, of Blue Ridge; two daughters, Karra Lee, and husband, Daniel, of Crozet, Virginia, and Chrissy Sloan, of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Caleb Slaughter, Andrew Lee, Travis and Courtney; two sisters, Carolyn Dial and husband, Harold, and Joyce Triplett and husband, Jimmy, all of Fayetteville, West Virginia; two brothers, Merivale Slaughter and Matthew Slaughter, both of Fayetteville, West Virginia; and special friends, JoAnn (Jody) Andrews and Rick McKinney, of Lewisburg, West Virginia.

The funeral service will be held Monday, December 5, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., in McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, Covington, Virginia, with Rev. Michael Fleenor officiating.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Fridley, Jason Brackenridge, Mike Troni, Robert McClintic, Stacey Bishop, Mark Massey, Jason Jones and Jason Slaughter. Alternates will be Spencer Cook, Ronnie Underwood and Jim Kelley.

The family will receive their friends Sunday evening, December 4, 2016, from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia.
