Obituary for Bill Mack Carter Bill Mack Carter
CSX Retiree As Conductor For 40 Years

Bill Mack Carter, 84, of 300 East Gray Street, Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, December 3, 2016, in Lewis Gale-Alleghany Hospital, Low Moor, Virginia.

Mr. Carter was born March 27, 1932, in Alleghany County, Virginia, a son of the late Mustoe and Kathleen Worsham Carter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Ellen Smith; a grandson, Brian Smith; a brother, Bob E. Carter; a sister, Sandra Cook; and a brother-in-law, Pat Cook.

Bill Mack had retired in 1993 as a Conductor after 40 years with the CSX Railroad. He was a member of the Iron Hill Christian Church. He was an avid lover and player of country music and loved being around family, friends and celebrations.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Helen Vass Carter, of Covington; his son and daughter-in-law, William David and Shanda Carter, of Covington; two grandsons, Michael L. Smith, of Old Bridge, NJ, and Ryan D. Carter, of Midlothian; 3 great grandchildren; and one sister, JoAnn Carter, of Covington.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lynn Wright officiating.

Interment will be made in the Sweet Chalybeate Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Paul Carter, John B. Carter, Patrick Carter, Rich Carter, James Jennings, Mark Elmore, Gene Smith and Fred Padgett.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse Carter, Gene Vest, Butch Kemper, Dr. David Crandall, Charlie Workman, Jack Harmon and Irving Watts.

The family will receive their friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia.
