Doody was born in Clifton Forge on January 4, 1947 to the late James David Morris, Sr. and Almeda Smith Morris.

He grew up in Clifton Forge, was raised in the Baptist Church, and served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War.

He was the owner/operator of the Clifton Forge 7-11, later Morris Convenience Store, for over forty years, but devoted his life to the community in many ways.

He was a member of the Clifton Forge City Council, also serving a term as Mayor of Clifton Forge, and was a member of the Burnside-Carpenter VFW Post 4299.

Doody was very patriotic, and proud of his service to his country while a Marine, but was also a wonderful husband and father, and very proud of his family.

In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Belcher, and a brother, Sherman Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Shrewsbury Morris, and two daughters, Erica D. Morris and her boyfriend, Robbie, and Mallory Helms and husband, Jamie, all of Clifton Forge; a sister, Shelia Smith of Covington; two sisters-in-law: Nancy Trent and husband, Freddie, and Dianna Shrewsbury; a brother-in-law, Eddie Shrewsbury and wife, Trish; and a number of nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Jerry Belcher and wife, Dawn.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Tom McHenry and Pastor Aaron Mansfield officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge

Graveside military rites will be conducted by members of the Burnside-Carpenter VFW Post 4299.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Doody’s memory to the Burnside-Carpenter Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4299, c/o Richard Erskine, P. O. Box 290, Iron Gate, VA 24448.
