Waddell Elementary School Helper, Daycare Provider Was Devoted Christian Og Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Member

Betty Evelyn Camden Conner, 83, of Lexington, Virginia, born Aug. 4, 1933, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Christmas Day, December 25, 2016, in the comfort of her home with loved ones surrounding her after a short illness.

Betty was a devoted wife, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, and nothing was more important.

She was born the daughter of Frank Camden and Virginia Mamie Mays Camden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Sue Bennett; one niece, Kathy Sue Nappi; and one nephew, Timothy Eugene Plogger.

Mrs. Camden was a devoted Christian of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and volunteered as a helper at Waddell Elementary School. She provided daycare for many in the community for over 30 years.

Betty is survived by her husband of sixty-one and a half years, James "Joe" Franklin Conner Sr.; daughters, Debbie Conner-Armentrout and husband, Roger of Lexington, Bridgette Denise Johnston and husband, Dale of Lake In The Hills, Ill.; sons, James "Butch" Franklin Conner Jr. and wife, Carol, and Stephen "Mike" Michael Conner and wife, Tammy, all of Lexington; eight grandchildren, Brandon Conner of Natural Bridge Station, Lacey Conner of Lexington, Victoria and Conner Johnston of Lake In The Hills , Ill., Camden and Courtney Conner of Lexington, Caitlin Tolley, and Sarah Lineberry of Lexington; six great-grandchildren, Abbi Wines, Emma Conner, Iris Conner, Morgan Harris, Carleigh Fox, and Chloe Sprouse; sisters, Patsy Plogger and husband, Clarence, Wilbur Dudley, Martha Huffman and husband, Johnny; brothers, Franklin Camden, Edward Camden and wife, Donna, all of Lexington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the Rockbridge Area Hospice, Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Carilion Home Health, and Dr. John Burton of Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, December 30, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions of your choice be made in loving memory of Betty to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450 or to the National Parkinson Disease Foundation, Inc., 200 SE First Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL. 33131.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 29, at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
