Obituary for Thelma Woolfolk Halsey Thelma Woolfolk Halsey
Alleghany County Native Worked At Covington High School

Thelma Woolfolk Halsey, 74, of 1017 Lincoln Avenue, Covington, Virginia died Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at the Brian Center Nursing Home in Low Moor.

Mrs. Halsey was born March 21, 1942 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Lawrence W. Woolfolk and Hazel Church Woolfolk Childress.P> In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emmanuel Halsey, Sr. in 1968, a granddaughter, Cheryl Janee Parris in 2013, and her special friend, Milton Helton, Sr.

Mrs. Halsey attended the former Jeter Watson High School.P> She had retired from the Covington School Board after many years as a custodial engineer at Covington High School.

She was a longtime member of Pine Street Baptist Church, where she had served as a Loyal Daughter of the church and as an usher.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Halsey of Brooklyn, NY, and Brenda Tyler of San Antonio, TX; one Son, Emmanuel Halsey, Jr. of Roanoke; her daughter-in-law, Wendy Halsey of Roanoke; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three "adopted sisters", Lisa Smith and Althea Rose, both of Covington and Karen Sampson of Brooklyn, NY; three "adopted brothers", Lawrence Sampson of McDonough, GA, and John Sampson and James Sampson both of Shreveport, LA.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 13, 2017 at 7 p.m. at the Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia.
