Obituary for William Hoyte Munsey, Jr. William Hoyte Munsey, Jr.
Covington Resident Dies At Age 85

Mr. William Hoyte Munsey, Jr., age 85, of Covington, Virginia died Saturday, January 7, 2017, at his residence.

He was the husband of Vergie Ann Masters Munsey.

Mr. Munsey was born February 25, 1931 in Pembroke, the son of the late William Hoyte Munsey, Sr. and Lola Martin Munsey.

A resident of this area for most of his life, he was employed as clerk by Chesapeake Southern Corporation, retiring following forty-two years of service.

Mr. Munsey attended South Covington United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed renovating houses, building airplanes and mechanical hobbies with his family. William also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

His children fondly referred to their father as a jack of all trades and a master of everything.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Munsey is survived by two sons, William Tony Munsey and wife, Betty and Gary Mitchell Munsey, all of Covington; a daughter, Karen Sue Munsey Gibson and husband, Larry of Covington; four grandchildren, Richard Gibson and wife, Edna, Michael Gibson and wife, Rebecca, Erica Dawn Puckett and husband, Mark, Amanda Gail Taylor and husband, Ben; six great grandchildren; and one brother, Melvin Eugene Munsey of Covington.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Munsey was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Calvin Munsey.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
