Obituary for Keith Hileman Simmons Sr. Keith Hileman Simmons Sr.
Retired Railroad Conductor Was Korean War Veteran

Keith Hileman Simmons Sr., 85, of 1401 Linden Ave, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Monday, January 9, 2017 at his residence.

He was born April 30, 1931 in Bath County, Virginia to the late Robert Lee Simmons and Gwendolyn Matheny Simmons.

He was a retired Railroad Conductor for the CSX Transportation.

He was a previous member of Windy Cove Presbyterian Church in Millboro.

Keith served as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a third battalion squad leader for the Combat Engineers.

Before losing his eyesight he enjoyed reading, hunting and fishing.

He was an avid football fan and cheered for the Redskins, Virginia Tech and University of Virginia teams.

In addition to his parents he is proceeded in death by his sister, Mae Tucker; three brothers, Bobby "Bob" Simmons, Thomas St. Clair Simmons, and Kenneth Simmons; two brothers-in-law, Raymond Tucker and George Fultz.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rachel Ann Simmons of Clifton Forge; a son, Keith Simmons Jr. of Clifton Forge; two sisters, Eleanor Woods and husband, James of Wilmington, NC and Louise Fultz of Bacova, Virginia; two brothers George Simmons and wife, Sue of Stephen City, Virginia and Dwight Simmons and wife, Carol of Kirkland, Washington; two sisters-in-law, Faye Simmons of Atlanta Georgia and Virginia Simmons of Arlington, Virginia; and a brother-in-law, Otho Leroy "Buck" Simmons of Springfield, Virginia; a number of nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Susan Goings and Cristy Bounds.

A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Covington with Reverend Rob Sherrard officiating. Interment will follow.

The family will receive friends at any time in the residence.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the Office of Dr. David Crandall and staff, Dr. James Ballou, Dr. Robert Gibson and the staff at Nicely Funeral Home, along with relatives, friends and neighbors.
