Alleghany County Native Dies At Age 88

Alva Golden Persinger (Goldie) Hepler, 88, of 3110 Jamison Mountain Road, Covington, Virginia died Saturday January 21, 2017, at her residence.

Mrs. Hepler was born January 9, 1929, in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late H. P. Persinger and Edith Terry Persinger.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, Leonard Leo "Jim" Hepler in 1999; one sister, Celia Myers; four brothers, Beauford Persinger, Palmer Persinger, John Persinger, and Curtis Jamison, and one son-in-law, Layne Mann.

Goldie was a member of Cliffdale Christian Church.

She was a homemaker and loved to garden and cook.

She is survived by two daughters, Loretta Mann and Phyllis Simmons, both of Covington; four grandchildren, John Mann, Eddie Mann, Bradley Hamblett, and Caillin Hamblett, and several nieces and nephews whom she thought of as her children.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Pastor Glenn Pysell officiating.

The family with receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Arritt Funeral Home and at other times Mrs. Hepler's Residence.

The interment will be held at Lone Star Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Robert Persinger, Jim Persinger, Doug Persinger, Charles Jamison, Tyler Persinger, and Alfred Smith. Alternate pallbearers will be James Arrington and James Fridley.

The Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia is handling the arrangements.
