Longtime Iron Gate Mayor Was Hill Top Market Operator

Alan Preston Williams, Sr., 57, of 202 Market Ave, Iron Gate, Virginia died Saturday, January 28, 2017 at his residence.

He was born June 20, 1959 in Clifton Forge to Mary Mundy Williams and the late Billy Lawson Monroe Williams Sr.

He was a graduate of James River High School and attended Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.

He was dedicated to the Town of Iron Gate, the people, and the stories that accompanied them, having served as mayor for 14 years.

Alan was a retired laborer for the CSX Transportation, and was operator of the Hill Top Market in Iron Gate.

He was an avid West Virginia University and Dallas Cowboys fan.

In addition to his mother, Mary Mundy Williams of Iron Gate, he is survived by a son, Alan Preston "A.J" Williams Jr. of Iron Gate; four sisters, Janice Carter and husband, Gary of Covington, Mary Ann Zadell and husband, John of Dublin, Ohio, Norma Quinn and husband, Robert of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Amy Nicely and husband, Jimmy of Rural Retreat; four brothers, Ronnie Williams and wife, Beatriz of Franklin, West Virginia, Billy Williams and wife, Diane of Clifton Forge, David Williams of Franklin, West Virginia, John Williams and wife, Carrie of Covington; and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins including a special cousin, Terri Rambolt of Ronceverte, West Virginia.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with the Elder Chris Fisher officiating. Interment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Chazy Nicely, Richard Duncan, Timmy Rollison, Linnie Crance, Brad Hodge, Gilbert Davis, Corky Wallace, Joe Turner, and Ronnie Harlow. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Mary Williams, 200 Sixth Street, Iron Gate, Virginia.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, 1700 McCorkle Ave., SE third floor Charleston, West Virginia 25314.
