Obituary for Pastor Raymond Martin Megginson, Sr. Pastor Raymond Martin Megginson, Sr.
Well-Known Local Minister Dies At Age 82

Pastor Raymond Martin Megginson, Sr., 82, of 1012 Girard Ave., Clifton Forge, Virginia died Tuesday January 31, 2017 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany in Low Moor.

He was born February 13, 1934 in Buckingham, Virginia, a son of the late Robert Herman Megginson, Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth Payne Megginson.

He has served as the minister of the Gloryland Church in Clifton Forge for the past 22 years, prior to that he preached at Oak Hill Bible Church, and First Baptist Church in Clifton Forge.

He also worked for 37 years as a mechanic at Hercules, 40 years at the Mountain National Bank in Clifton Forge, in the maintenance department of the H.O. Canfield, Co., as a mechanic at Ernie Young's Exxon Station, and as the janitor of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Herman Megginson, Jr., and Claude Edward Megginson.

He is survived by his wife, Nora Jean Byrd Megginson of Clifton Forge; two daughters, Angela Megginson of Clifton Forge, Paulette Tapp of Buford, Georgia; four sons: Daniel Megginson, of Clifton Forge, Raymond Megginson, Jr., of Roanoke, Gregory Megginson, of Washington, DC, Glenn Megginson of Fort Worth, Texas, eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, three sisters; Debbie Brown Barber (Jimmie) of Covington, Sederia Butler Brown, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Barbara Megginson, of Atlanta, Georgia; a brother, David Megginson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and special friends, Sean Jerome Demps, and Bruce Kesterson.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon Saturday February 4, 2017 in the Gloryland Church 430 W. Ridgeway Street in Clifton Forge, with Brother Bruce Kesterson officiating, and eulogist Elder Ronzo Lee Byrd. Interment will follow in Red Hill Cemetery in Clifton Forge. Active Pallbearers will be his sons and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is in charge of arrangements.
