Clifton Forge Native Was Longtime Registered Nurse

Mary Douglas McCoy Durham, 87, of Cowpasture River Highway, Millboro, Virginia died Saturday March 4, 2017 at Bath Community Hospital in Hot Springs.

She was born May 1, 1929 in Clifton Forge, a daughter of the late Floyd and Mary Douglas McCoy.

She was a member of Windy Cove Presbyterian Church and was a former member of the Millboro Ruritan Club.

She began her career as a registered nurse at Bath Community Hospital, and retired from King's Daughters Hospital in Staunton.

She loved crocheting, knitting, feeding and watching her hummingbirds and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Durham; a sister; Betty Cooke, and a brother, Cecil McCoy, and a sister-in-law, Virginia McCoy.

She is survived by her husband, Alvin Thomas Durham, Sr.; two sons: Alvin Durham, Jr. and his wife Cindy, of Covington, Randall L. Durham and his wife, Terri of Newport News; three brothers: Walter McCoy and his wife, Florence of Stuarts Draft, John McCoy and his wife, Judi of Grottoes, Frank McCoy and his wife, Faye of Millboro; seven grandchildren; Katie and fiancee Daniel, Erin, Morganne, Taylor, Samantha, Ashley, and Meagan; two great grandchildren, Sophia and Grayson, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge, with the Reverend Robert Sherrard officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Alleghany Memorial Park in Low Moor.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Nicely Funeral Home
