Obituary for HJoel (Dean) Clifton Joel (Dean) Clifton
Hot Springs Native, Clifton Forge Resident Dies At Age 60

Joel (Dean) Clifton of Hamilton Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia slipped from his Earthly body into the arms of Jesus around 1 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2017.

Dean was born July 9, 1956 in Hot Springs, Virginia to the late Hyman DeWitt Clifton and Irene Thacker Clifton.

Dean was the grandson of the late Henry T. and Gladys Andrews Thacker of Natural Well and the late Earl and Zelma Fox (Clifton) Hansel of Belpre, Ohio.

His employment career began at the Hot Springs Pharmacy following in the footsteps of his father and brother. He then moved up the street to The Homestead, working in the Housekeeping Department and then into the Printing Shop. In the late 70’s he left the printing shop to attend Massillon Baptist College to pursue a divinity degree.

He returned to Bath County and became Pastor of the Millboro Christian Church. For a time he helped run Camp ACCOVAC in Millboro and also taught at the Immanuel Christian School in Clifton Forge. Following that he then worked for Bacova in Low Moor as its Safety and Environmental Director, then Coca-Cola in Roanoke as its Safety and Training Supervisor, finishing his work career with JM Fry, INC in Mechanicsville as a Safety Supervisor.

Dean is survived by his wife of 20 years, Merry Ann Hall Clifton, who cared for him and held him through his last breath. He is also survived by his daughter, Joelle Deanna and husband, Matt Fior; a son, Josiah Dean Clifton; a step son, Jay Kiser and wife, Jennifer; and a step daughter, Lorri K. Boyd and husband, Bill; four precious grandchildren, Emilee Faith Booze, Rebecca McKinley Kiser, Jacob Val Booze, and Andrew Jay Kiser; his older brother, Timothy D. Clifton; younger sister, Tina Susan Waybright and husband, Richard; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins from his immediate and extended/blended family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Living Stones Ministries, Route 42 in Clifton Forge. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Comfort Care Women's Health Center at P. O. Box 924, Staunton, VA 24402.

The Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge is handling the arrangements.
