Covington Native Was Longtime County Teacher's Aide

Mrs. Bettie Harter Loving, age 95, of Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Brian Center-Alleghany, Low Moor.

She was the wife of the late Robert Marshall "Pete" Loving, Jr.

Mrs. Loving was born July 31, 1921 in Covington, the daughter of the late Stuart S. Harter and Christell Mann Harter.

A lifetime resident of this community, she was a 1938 graduate of Covington High School.

Bettie was employed as a teacher's aide by the Alleghany County School System, spending most of her career at Callaghan Elementary School.

Mrs. Loving was a member of Rainbow Ridge Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution and the Sara Rice Pryor Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Mrs. Loving is survived by one son, Whitney Harter Loving and wife, Suzy of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Jennifer Courtney Loving of Fresno, CA, Sarah Ashley Loving of San Francisco, CA, Afton Nichole Loving and Zachary Robert Loving of Portsmouth; two great grandchildren, Lillian Eva Miller and Cohen Marshall Loving; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Loving was preceded in death by one son, Robert Marshall "Rob" Loving, III and three brothers, Paul Harter, Woodrow Harter and Stuart "Buddy" Harter Jr.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Russell Urban officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tab Broce, Gary Morgan, Dave Melton, Randy Gonzaulous, Travis Botkins and John Helmintoller.

The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church, 425 W. Main Street, Covington, VA, 24426.
