Tragic Vehicle Accident Claims Life Of 48 Year-Old

Darrin Scott Nicely, 48, of 301 Craft Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Thursday, May 11, 2017 in Alleghany County.

He was born on September 14, 1968, a son of Carlous Robert Nicely and Donna Simpson Nicely of Clifton Forge.

He was a senior account manager at Sonoco Products and had worked there 24 years.

Darrin was a 1986 graduate of Alleghany High School. He received an associate degree from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College and was a 1992 graduate of Radford University.

Darrin coached and supported area Youth League Baseball. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing.

He was a member of the Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge # 166 A.F. & A.M.

Darrin's nickname, "Dirty" was given him in Little League Football and it stuck with him his entire life.

He played softball and was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Braves, University of Virginia sports and all Alleghany High School sports activities.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Charles and Rebecca Simpson and Carlous and Elsie Nicely.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Melissa S. Nicely of 25 years; three sons, Dalton Scott Nicely of Troutville, Ethan Matthew Nicely and Caden Ellis Nicely, both of Clifton Forge.

Darrin is survived by a large host of aunts, uncles, Cousins and great lifetime friends.

A service to celebrate Darrin's life will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Beaver Terry and Reverend Nathan Colwell officiating.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is in charge of arrangements.
