Retired Canfield, Acadia Supervisor Dies At Age 86

Paul Walter Boucher, 86, of 620 Prospect Walk, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Friday, May 26, 2017 at his home.

He was born November 3, 1930 in Berlin, New Hampshire, a son of the late William and Bernadette Fraser Boucher.

He played hockey for Notre Dame High School in Berlin, and they were the New Hampshire State Champions for two years running.

He was a member of St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Clifton Forge, a retired foreman and supervisor for the H.O. Canfield and the Acadia Polymers plant in Iron Gate.

He was also a referee (Linesman) for Eastern Hockey League, and the Roanoke Valley Rebels, a volunteer for the Clifton Forge Area Food Pantry for over 20 years, and an umpire for little League Baseball.

He was a great dad and friend!

Paul served on active duty in the United States Navy from November 28, 1951 until November 28, 1955, and then in the United States Navy Reserves from 1955 until his discharge in 1959.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Devenny Boucher in December of 2011; a sister, Laurette Proulx; a brother, Henry Boucher; a granddaughter, Heather Dawn Boucher; a great grandson, Zachary Broadwater; and a special cousin, Maurice Boucher.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary Holzinger and husband, Ronald of Sunrise, FL and Katherine Gillette and husband, Gary of El Paso, TX; five sons, Paul H. Boucher and wife, Jane of Oakland, ME, Leo Boucher and wife, Judy of Clifton Forge, Joseph Boucher of Eagle Rock, Robert L. Boucher and wife, Mary of Lake Jackson, TX, Bernard J. Boucher and wife, Tina of Cheboygan, MI; a sister, Louise Giguere of Gorham, NH; two brothers, Raoul Boucher and wife, Lucille of Berlin, NH, Robert Boucher and wife, Sandy of Brockton, MA; a sister-in-law, Tina Boucher of Lugoff, SC; fourteen grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Lois Boucher of Berlin, NH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Clifton Forge with Reverend Tom Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Low Moor with military graveside rites provided by members of the Curtis A. Smith VFW Post 1033.

Active pallbearers will be his sons, Paul Boucher, Leo Boucher, Joe Boucher, Bobby Boucher, and Bernie Boucher, and his brother and nephew, Robert Boucher, Sr. and Robert Boucher, Jr.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with a Christian Wake service being held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions in his memory to the Clifton Forge Area Food Pantry, 909 Church Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422, or your local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge is handling the arrangements.
