Retired Coors Brewing Co. Head Of Security, Was Former Covington Police Officer

Robert Homer (Bob) Balser, age 80, of 110 Crescent Ave., Iron Gate, Virginia, died Friday, June 9, 2017 at his residence.

He was born October 6, 1936 in Alleghany County to the late John F. and Lottie Vess Balser.

He retired as head of security at Coors Brewing Company in Elkton, Virginia and was a sergeant officer at the Covington Police Department.

He attended Central Advent Christian Church and enjoyed woodworking, NASCAR, and golf.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Arlene Clark Balser; two brothers, Calvin "Denny" Balser, and John Balser Jr; two sisters, Lillian Conner and Margaret Bryant.

He is survived by two sons: Barry Balser and wife, Debbie of Clifton Forge and Roger Balser and wife, Barbara of Iron Gate; two grandsons, Brad Balser and wife, Priscilla and Scott Balser and wife, Kristen, both of Clifton Forge; and four great grandchildren, Bella, Paige, Bailey, and Lexi.

A graveside funeral will be held Monday, June 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge, with the Reverend Edward Dowd Jr. officiating. Interment will immediately follow.

A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge Virginia 24422.
