Obituary for Carole Joyce McGregor Carole Joyce McGregor
Covington Native Was Longtime Nurse

Carole Joyce McGregor, age 81, passed unexpectedly on Friday, June 9, 2017 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, after a brief illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-four years, George Arthur McGregor, her eldest daughter, Heather Joyce Wolfe, her youngest daughter, Bonnie Lynn McGregor, and her grandson, David Wayne Nauss, Jr.

Mrs. McGregor is survived by her daughter, Dawn Carole McGregor Aherron of Montpelier, VA and her husband, David Spencer Aherron and her grandchildren, Dana and Dillon Aherron, Matthew Nauss of Albuquerque, NM and Karen Nauss of Roanoke. She is also survived by J.D. Richmond, a close family friend she considered to be the son she never had as well as her beloved Yorkshire terrier, "Sparky", whom she thought the world of.

The daughter of the late, Homer and Minnie Ogden, Carole was born and raised in Covington, Virginia.

She graduated from Covington High School and from Longwood College as well as the Medical College of Virginia.

After marriage, Carole moved with her husband, George, to Yonkers, NY, where she practiced nursing in the operating room. She and her husband raised their three daughters in the New York area until 1979 at which time they moved to Covington.

Mrs. McGregor was of the Methodist faith.

Throughout her life, Carole was a devoted caregiver to her family, her friends and to her relatives. She was kind, giving and loving and was always there for others. Her smile, laughter and silliness were infectious to others and she was loved by many.

Her caregivers late in life, Maddie and Kim Ramirez, in the employ of Alleghany Highlands Home Care, took wonderful care of Carole. Gloria Jones, also of Alleghany Highlands Home Care, was instrumental in coordinating the fine quality of care that she received over the past five years. Gloria provided friendship and understanding of the many struggles that she faced in life.

Carole was an avid reader and loved shopping for books. She also loved working on jigsaw puzzles and sharing that time with her caregivers.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017 from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Pastor Christina Bowen officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be David Aherron, Dillon Aherron, J.D. Richmond, Steve Byer and other friends and family members.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial donations take the form of contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, P. O. Box 78960, Phoenix, AZ 85062-8960.
