1937 CFHS Graduate, Was Peery Business School Graduate, Longtime Central United Methodist Church Member

Elaine Elizabeth Broughman Conner, age 100, died Sunday, June 11, 2017 at The Highland House, Clifton Forge.

Mrs. Conner was born May 17, 1917 in Clifton Forge to the late Samuel Henry and Cora Alma Goodwin Broughman.

She was a 1937 graduate of Clifton Forge High School and the Peery Business School in 1937.

She was a homemaker and mother throughout her life and a member of Central United Methodist Church for over sixty-five years, where she served on the Administrative Board.

She headed and served with the Clifton Forge Bloodmobile for fifteen years and received several citations. She was a volunteer for the Clifton Forge Food Pantry and the Meals on Wheels program. She was a member of the Friendship Club at the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church, the JOY Club at the Central United Methodist Church, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1033, Covington, Virginia.

Mrs. Conner was the widow of Garland June Conner, who preceded her in death on December 28, 2000 after fifty-five years of marriage.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Broughman and Raymond Broughman; a sister, Nellie Broughman Painter; a niece, Betty Whitaker Porter; and two nephews, Ralph Broughman and Gerald Broughman.

Surviving Elaine are two children, Gary Wayne Conner and wife, Janet of Cary, NC, and Donna Conner Burch and husband, David (Jack) Burch of Harrisonburg; and five grandchildren, Nathan Conner and wife, Susan of Chesapeake, Christina Conner Enfinger and husband, David of Chantilly, Carrie Conner Mitran and husband, Taras of Cary, NC, Jason Burch and wife, Erin of Harrisonburg, and Kelly Burch of Harrisonburg. Elaine's twelve great grandchildren are Alisa, David, Angel, Trinity, Staria, Cody, Westen, Allie and Maxwell Enfinger, and Grace, Claire and Gabriel Conner. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Central United Methodist Church Chapel, Clifton Forge with Reverend Lynn Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Nathan Conner, Jason Burch, David Enfinger, Taras Mitran, Joey Morris, and Grady Haynes.

The family will visit with friends on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Central United Methodist Church Chapel.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is handling arrangements. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mrs. Conner's name to the Meals on Wheels program, or to the charity of your choice.
