Obituary for Barry Wayne (Butch) Mahaney Barry Wayne (Butch) Mahaney
Vietnam War Veteran Was Truck Drive, Iron Gate Fire Department Member

Barry Wayne (Butch) Mahaney, age 69, of 707 Commerce Avenue, Iron Gate, Virginia died Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

He was born September 16, 1947 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, to the late William Henry and Viola Nuckols Mahaney.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and was a truck driver for Prime, Inc.

He was a member of the Vietnam Veteran Brotherhood and the Iron Gate Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Sue Maycock Mahaney, and a sister, Shelby Craft.

He is survived by two daughters, Dawn Belcher and husband, Jerry, and Wendy Marshall and husband, David, all of Clifton Forge; a son, William S. Mahaney of Roanoke; two step daughters, Victoria Hudson and husband, Jake of Wolco, OK, and Darline Forbes and husband, Fred of Iron Gate; two step sons, Thomas Marrazzo and wife, Seantelle of Wolco, OK, and Frank Marrazzo and wife, Sarah of Selma; a sister, Peggy Mahaney Bayne of Iron Gate; thirteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; a number of nieces; and special friends, Jack Bartlett, James Richards, and Susan Propst.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Edith Snedegar officiating. Burial of cremains will take place in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Military graveside honors will be performed by members of the Burnside-Carpenter VFW Post 4299 and the Curtis A. Smith VFW Post 1033.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
