U. S. Marine Corps World War II Veteran Was Retired C&O Engineer

Walter Edgar Davis, Jr., age 94, of 3203 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 8, 2017.

He was born March 21, 2017 in Clifton Forge to the late Walter Edgar Davis, Sr. and Mamie Olivia Garrison Davis.

Walter served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, and was a retired engineer for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Mae Davis in April of 2016; a daughter, Judy Kay Davis; a son, Walter Edgar Davis III; and a sister, Rosalee Davis.

He is survived by four daughters, Judith Lynn Jones and husband, Eddie of Clifton Forge, Donna D. DeLong and husband, Edward of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Andrea Renee Murry and husband, Dan of Troutville, and Cherie' Suzanne Allen and husband, Ray of Clifton Forge; thirteen grandchildren, Kyle Clayton Jones and wife, Shannon, Clay Patrick Jones and wife, Sarah, Weston Trey Jones, Anthony Stephen Neville, Stephanie Paige Cowan and husband, Blaine, Sarah Lynne Neville, Olivia Jewel Anne Murry, Jadyn Annalee Murry, Emily Anneliesse Murry, Landon Ray Allen and wife, Tabatha, Jana Cherie Bahrns and husband, Doug, Amber Suzanne Dean and husband, Dwayne, and Anmarie Rosalie Herald and husband, Scott; eight great grandchildren, Bailey Neville, Uriah Dean, Sophia Allen, Eden Dean, Gracyn Chandler, Hunter Allen, Jack Jones, and Kailyn Jones; and her loving and devoted caregiver, Barbara Bunch.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Dan Gillette officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Mr. Davis' grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to Grace Brethren Church, 2507 S. Carpenter Dr., Covington, VA 24426.
