Obituary for Eugene Allen (Punky) Averill Eugene Allen (Punky) Averill
Alleghany County Native Was Korean War Air Force Veteran

Eugene Allen (Punky) Averill, age 85, of 105 Wynlyne Road, Low Moor, Virginia, died Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor.

He was born March 11, 1932 in Alleghany County, Virginia, to the late William Anderson and Alpha "Granny" Black Via Averill.

He retired from CSX Railroad as an electrician.

He was a member of Low Moore Presbyterian Church, the Elks Lodge, and was an avid Virginia Tech football fan.

Mr. Averill severed in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by a brother, William James “Billy” Averill. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Downey Averill; two daughters, Tracy Averill of Boones Mill and Lori Noel and husband, David of Ridgeley, WV; two sons, Scotty Averill and companion, Beth Easter of Clifton Forge and Greg Averill and companion, Tina Spicuzza of Vinton; a brother, Wayne Eben Averill and wife, Doris K.; sister-in-law, Doris C. Averill; six grandchildren: Samantha Averill, Daniel Unroe, Challen Averill, Alana Averill, Grant Noel and Lorin Noel; seven great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special companion, Guiness.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with the Reverend Marshall Tidwell officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggest memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Low Moor Presbyterian Church, 204 Old Church Road, Low Moor, VA 24457.
