Alleghany County Public Works Retiree Dies At Age 66

Willie Homer Johnson, 66, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

Mr. Johnson was born October 12, 1950 in Clifton Forge, a son of the late Carl and Alberta Burks Johnson.

He retired from the Alleghany County Public Works Department.

He was a member of the Iron Gate Baptist Church.

Willie was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching his favorite team, the Washington Redskins.

Surviving are two daughters, Meca Taylor and her fiance, Kyle Smith, of Dallas TX, and Alisha Taylor of Harrisonburg; one granddaughter, Tyhesha Taylor; three Brothers, Carl Edward Johnson and his wife, Camella, Robert L. "Flattop" Johnson and his wife, Glendora, and Harry Johnson, all of Covington; three sisters, Marian Gabriel and her husband, Samuel of Atlantic City, NJ, Emily Quarles of Iron Gate and Polly Hunter and her husband, Russell of Covington; and several nieces, nephews and special kids.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Stephanie Clark officiating.

Interment will be made in Mountain View Cemetery at Clifton Forge.

The family will receive their friends Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
