Former Alleghany Highlands School System Teacher's Aide Dies At Age 80

Mrs. Joann (Jo) Halverson Morgan, age 80, of Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, July 22, 2017 at her residence.

She was the wife of Harold Albert Morgan, to whom she was married for sixty-two years.

Mrs. Morgan was born November 24, 1936 in Danube, MN, the daughter of the late Earl Julian Halverson and Lillian Vick Halverson Vosberg.

A resident of this community since 1956, she was employed as a teacher's aide by the Alleghany Highlands School System for twenty four years.

Mrs. Morgan was a member of Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church and a former member of Callaghan Ruritan Club. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed the friendships and activities she participated in as a member of the YMCA.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Morgan is survived by four daughters, Debra Kay Rago and husband, Ken, Kimberly Ann Brown and husband, Jim, of Covington, Linda Morgan Reyns of Covington and Susan Morgan Bostic and husband, Tim, of Fincastle; six grandchildren, Brandy Moye, Kyle Bostic, Ryan Jenkins, Michael Brown, Adrianne Reynolds and Katie Bostic; six great grandchildren; a brother, Earl K. Halverson of Fulda, MN; one nephew; and one niece.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2017 at Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Palmer officiating. Interment will follow in Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jim Brown, Tim Bostic, Kyle Bostic, Michael Brown, Ryan Jenkins and Ken Rago.

The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at the church.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church, C/O Hunter Fridley, 4310 Callaghan Circle, Covington, VA 24426 or Mountain Regional Hospice, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
