Obituary for John (JT) May John (JT) May
Well-Known Auto Mechanic Was Correctional Officer, Virginia State Guardsman

John (JT) May passed on to be with his ancestors on July 22, 2017, 11 p.m. at U.V.A Hospital in Charlottesville at the age of 37.

He was a great man who had love for many things. He was a garage monkey, who could build up a show car or fix a lemon. He was a gun enthusiast who could take apart, clean and put it back together in record time. He also loved his bike, his club, and his beliefs. But more than anything, he loved his family.

His career began with his work with Dunlap Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He soon found his way to training and becoming a Correctional Officer, where he worked at Anthony Correctional Center and Augusta Correctional Center. At the same time he was a devoted member of the Virginia State Guard, where he served as an E5 – SGT, A Company, 13th Battalion in the Blackhorse Brigade. He also worked as a mechanic in several different places and times, because if he smelled oil and gasoline, you could count him in!

He is survived by his mother, Tammy Wright Smith and her husband, Kirk Smith of Millboro, VA; his father, Daniel Eugene May and his wife, Linnletter Masters of White Sulphur Springs, WV; three children, Michael Thomas May, Gabriella Nicole May, and Zachary Thomas May, all of Covington, VA; a former wife, Jennifer May of Covington, VA; two sisters, Crystal Dawn May of Callaghan, VA and Terra Adaire May of Roanoke, VA; a soul sister, Sarah Lough and an adopted brother, James Brady Rapp; two nieces, Chevelle Ashley May and Jemma Wright of Millboro, VA.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Master SSgt John Clinton May Jr. and his wives, Cynthia Byer May and Sylvia Jean May; his grandfather, Harold "Red" Wright and his wife, Phyllis Gragg Wright; his aunts, Jerry Dianne Windsor and Belinda Gail May; and a cousin, Terry Wayne May.

A celebration of his life will be held 6:00 p.m., Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Natural Well/Steel Bridge. In lieu of flowers, please send Memorial Donations to Millboro Funeral Home, P. O. Box 252, Millboro, VA 24460.
