Rheudene Grant Ayers, 93, of Lexington, Virginia, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, at Heritage Hall.

Born June 3, 1924, in Rockbridge County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Hallie Grant.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilmore McKinley Ayers; daughter, Hilda Ayers Smith; son, James Austin Ayers; granddaughter, Stephanie Lee Ayers; and grandparents, Edward and Willie Robertson.

Rheudene was a member of Collierstown United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her son, Melvin McKinley Ayres (Sherry); eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

There will be a private burial.

The family will receive friends at the home of Melvin Ayers.
