Vietnam War Veteran Was MeadWestvaco Retiree, Life Member Of The Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department

James William (Bill) Railey, Jr., 73, of 8401 Dunlap Creek Road, Covington, Virginia, died Friday, October 6, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Railey was born July 30, 1944 in Alleghany County, a son of the late James W. Railey, Sr. and Gladys Knighton Railey.

Bill was a veteran of the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army and retired after 25 years from the Army National Guard with the rank of Master Sargeant.

He retired from the Mead Westvaco Lowmoor Converting Plant in 2009 after 25 years with the company. He was a Life Member of the Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department, serving for over 25 years. He was a longtime member of Mallow Presbyterian Church, where he was active with the Men of Missions.

The funeral service will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in Mallow Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Gary Marshall officiating.

Interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park with graveside rites by Curtis A. Smith Pos #1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.

The family suggests that donations in Mr. Railey's name be made to Mallow Presbyterian Church; 2004 E. Mallow Road, Covington, VA 24426.
