Obituary for Dana Lewis Haun Leonowicz Dana Lewis Haun Leonowicz
Welch, WV Native Was Banker, Storyteller, Quilter

Dana Lewis Haun Leonowicz departed October 24, 2017 at age 70, after a fierce 5-year war with ovarian cancer.

Soulmate to husband Donnie, abiding mother to Matt, doting grandmother to Aiden and Max, Dana was born in Welch, W.Va., and raised in Miami, Fla. Following her father's death, she returned to the Lewis homeplace (summer mecca for the cousins), attending Natural Bridge High School, where she was a cheerleader and voted "wittiest and the friendliest" by the senior class.

She pursued a degree at Ferrum, later becoming a banker at SunTrust Bank, Petersburg, much to the amazement of her high-school math teacher. A natural-born storyteller, nothing happened to Dana that could not be improved and embellished in the retelling, to the delight of her audience.

She had a passion for quilting and Quiddler, as well as a love of gardening shared by Donnie. Gone is the 15 step green bean recipe and her sultry rendition of "Summertime."

Still alive are our precious memories of her. Dana was an original. She joins her parents, Holbrook and Helen (Lewis) Haun, her Aunt Tag and her faithful dogs, the Reddog and Been Jammin' Franklin, in the hereafter.

In her no-holds-barred fight with cancer, Dr. Randal West and his wonderful staff - Margaret, Laura, Lisa and Michelle - were working her corner.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 at Matoaca United Methodist Church, 6301 River Road, S. Chesterfield, VA 23803 with Pastor Richard Gordon officiating.

ln lieu of flowers, please donate to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, Inc., 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, Suite 2110, New York, NY, 10122, EIN 13-3806788, or The Community Outreach Building at Matoaca United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
