Raymond Eldridge Hundley Jr., 89, of Eagle Rock, Virginia, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017.

Born in 1928 in Troutville, VA, he was a graduate of Troutville High.

He was married to Faye Adamson of Fincastle in 1949 and headed to Eastern Virginia, where he served as a dairy tester for several years. Raymond later worked as a chemist at the Lone Star Cement Company, before working in forest management for Owens of Illinois, and subsequently, WESTVACO.

Active in community service, Raymond served as Scoutmaster of Troop 2 in Clifton Forge, with all three sons eventually joining him in reaching the level of Eagle Scout. He was active member of the Ruritans and served on the Botetourt County Zoning Board of Appeals. With his love of the outdoors, Raymond was an avid hunter and conservationist, and even had the first patent on a portable treestand.

The Hundleys have been good stewards of the land throughout the years. Together, they placed more than 600 acres of pristine wilderness in Conservation Easement with the State of Virginia.

An active member of Galatia Presbyterian Church, Raymond served as an elder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond E. and Kathleen Octavia Hall Hundley; and sisters, Virginia Rae Woody, Jacqueline Rader Overstreet and Billy Joe Hundley.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Faye Adamson Hundley; sons, Robert Boyd Hundley, Raymond (Ridge) Eldridge Hundley III (Sarah), Stephen Adamson Hundley (Elaine), and daughter, Melissa Hundley; granddaughters, Teresa, Bethany, and Kristin; grandsons, Scott, Rob, Adam, Brad, Matthew, and Liam; two great grandchildren; sister, Pat H. Osisek of Alexandria.
