Millboro Native Was U. S. Air Force Veteran, Devoted Member Of The Windy Cove Presbyterian Church

Ralph Raymond (Sonny) Clark, Jr. went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at his home place in Millboro, Virginia, where he was born 80 years ago.

He was born May 12, 1937 in Bath County to the late Ralph Raymond Clark, Sr. and Daisy McCorkle Haynes.

Sonny was a devoted member of Windy Cove Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon, elder, member of the choir, and chairman of the building committee. He was a frequent lay speaker at numerous local churches.

His other passions in life included coaching Little League baseball, hunting (especially turkeys), pitching horseshoes and horseback riding.

He was a 1955 graduate of Millboro High School and then went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959.

After working with his brother Jimmy in the construction business, and serving as the maintenance supervisor for Bath County Public Schools for several years, he worked as the manager of Windy Cove Farm for 37 years. Most recently, he was a bus driver for Bath County Schools.

Seeing the children on his twice-a-day, 40 mile journey, brought him great joy and pleasure.

He was preceded in death by his three siblings, James Andrew "Jimmy" Clark, Betty Lou Morris, and Peggy Jean Bottenfield.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beatrice Deitz Clark of Millboro; six children, Dr. Johnny Clark and wife, Carol of Luray, Dr. Ralph "Ronny" Clark and wifen Melissa of Richmond, Dr. William "Buddy" Clark and wife, Laura of Wexford, PA, Robert "Bobby" Clark and wife, Sharon of Mount Jackson, Charolette Clark Lotts and husband, Robert of Millboro, and Larry Clark and wife, Diana of Galax; seventeen grandchildren, Kristen Clark Sadtler and husband, Ben, Brian Clark, Rene Clark, Russell Clark, Alyssa Clark, James Clark, Sam Clark, Lucy Paige Lotts Nielsen and husband, 2nd Lt. Matthew Nielsen, Nathan Lotts, Kate Clark Vaughan and husband, Zack, Daisy Clark, Rachel Clark, Audrey Clark, Beth Clark, Rebekah Clark, Aden Clark, and Heath Clark; as well as a great grandchild due in the Spring.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, November 24, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Windy Cove Presbyterian Church in Millboro Springs with Reverend Robert Sherrard officiating. A reception will follow at Millboro Fire House in the village of Millboro. Camouflage, blaze orange, or other casual attire is encouraged.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Windy Cove Samaritan Fund, 102 Windy Cove Road, Millboro, Virginia 24460.
