Rockbridge County Native Dies At Age 87

Juanita Hall Smith, 87, of Lexington, Virginia, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017 at her home.

Born Sept. 17, 1930, in Rockbridge County, she was a daughter of the late Lacy Deacon Hall and Margaret Hayes Hall.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Smith, and a brother, Clarence Hall.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Oxford Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and was custodian for many years.

Juanita loved working in her flowers and gardening.

Surviving are two sons, William L. "Billy" Smith and wife, Linda, and Jerry W. Smith and wife, Charlotte; one daughter, Sandra S. Bryant and husband, Bill; sisters, Hilda H. Clark of Herndon and Charlotte H. Hardie of Martinsville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Harrison Funeral Chapel with Dr. Horace Douty officiating. Burial will follow at Oxford Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
