Grover Clarence (G.C.) Fawley, Jr., age 91, of Covington, Virginia, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at LewisGale Medical Center, Salem.

He was the husband of Barbara Williams Fawley.

G.C. was born October 13, 1926 in Elkton, VA, the son of the late Grover Clarence Fawley and Remecca Little Fawley.

He graduated from Covington High School. While attending Virginia Military Institute, he enlisted in the Naval Air Force. Following his service in the military, he was a partner at Craighead and Fawley Amoco Station. He later worked at G.C. Fawley Insurance Agency with his father. He then became a sales manager at Alleghany Motors.

G.C. was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and elder and member of the chancel choir. G.C. was a 65 year member of Covington Lodge 171 AF & AM. He was also the oldest member of the Covington Fire Department with 65 years of service.

Those who will forever cherish his memory include his wife of fifty eight years, Barbara; a son, Lance Fawley and wife, Melissa of Bedford; two daughters, Lora Barna and husband, Jeff of Laguna Beach, CA, and Sara Windham and husband, Bruce of Fort Mill, SC; and thirteen grandchildren, Hunter, Sam, Grace, Emma, Matt, and Ben Fawley, Andrew, Katie, and Lizzy Barna, Alex, Eli, Jake, and Max Windham.

In addition to his parents, Grover and Remecca Fawley, Mr. Fawley was preceded in death by one sister, Bobbie Casey.

There are not enough words to describe what a special person G.C. was or how much he meant to those who were fortunate enough to have known him. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, December 10, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jim Slate officiating. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at the church.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to First Presbyterian Church, 185 N. Maple Avenue, Covington, VA 24426 or to Covington Fire Department, 435 W. Hawthorne Street, Covington, VA 24426.
