Shirley McDaniel Canterbury, 68, of 1913 Snake Run Road, Covington, Virginia, died Friday, December 8, 2017 at her residence.

Mrs. Canterbury was born May 2, 1949 in Alleghany County, the daughter of Betty Bates McDaniel Harvey and the late William Ernest McDaniel.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

She retired in 2008 after 30 years of service in the housekeeping department at the Greenbrier Hotel.

She was a member and pianist at Dunlap Christian Church. She was also a member of the quilting club at Faith Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Larry M. Canterbury of Covington, her mother and step father, Betty and Arnold Harvey of Covington, her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Wayne Webb of Vinton, her son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Toby Canterbury of Sweet Springs, WV; five grandchildren: Chris Canterbury, Matt Canterbury, Rebekah Canterbury, Daniel Webb, Meagan Webb,; two brothers, Don McDaniel and his wife, Liz of Gloucester, and Lee McDaniel and his wife, Kate of Mathews and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Atkins officiating and assisted by the Rev. J. B. Broughman.

The family will receive their friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Tuesday at Arritt Funeral Home.

The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
