Obituary for Ruth Burr Chenault Ruth Burr Chenault
CHS Graduate Was CSX Retiree, Longtime Central United Methodist Church Member

Mrs. Ruth Burr Chenault, age 91, of Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Monday, December 18, 2017.

She was the wife of the late Ray Douglas Chenault, who preceded her in death on December 14, 2000.

Mrs. Chenault was born December 23, 1925 in Odessa, MO, the daughter of the late Howard William Burr and Estie Mae McCoy Burr.

Ruth attended Covington City schools and graduated from Covington High School in 1942.

She was married to Ray Douglas Chenault on June 27, 1947. Ruth and her husband, Ray, were western square dance enthusiasts.

Mrs. Chenault was a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church in Clifton Forge, and was a member of the Wesleyan Bible Class and the Wesleyan Fellowship.

She was retired from the CSX Railroad, where she was employed as a steno-clerk. Ruth was a member and volunteer of the C&O Historical Society and a member of the Volunteer Auxiliary at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany.

Mrs. Chenault is survived by one son, Stephen Douglas Chenault of Hot Springs; two daughters, Ann C. Walsh and husband, Michael of Stuarts Draft and Betty Lou C. Douglas and husband, Eric of Springfield, TN; two grandsons, Todd Helmintoller and Phillip Payne; a granddaughter, Cristina Lynn Christie; a sister-in-law, Hazel Andrews Burr and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Chenault was preceded in death by a grandson, Ira (George) Payne in 2007; four brothers; and three sisters. She was the last surviving member of the Burr family.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Russell Urban officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Central United Methodist Church, 414 Main Street, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or the C&O Historical Society, 312 E. Ridgeway Street, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
