James (Squanto) William Jewell, 76, of Buena Vista, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Friendship Health and Rehab, Roanoke, Virginia, with family by his side.

Born August 15, 1941 in Buena Vista, he was a son of the late James Talmadge Jewell and Hilda Henson Jewell.

James was a lover of nature, being very knowledgeable about birds and every animal as well as being artistic.

He was honorably discharged from the U. S. Air Force.

Surviving are his daughters, Jennifer Jewell and Jill Howard; five grandchildren; sister, Motty Jewell Moore; three nieces, Amy Caputo, Beth Wells, Kelly Clark; special nephew, Jamey Moore; and step-mother, Barbara Jewell; and his special nurses, Marsha and Debbie; the entire staff of Friendship Health and Rehab and Dr. Willis.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, 2017 at Green Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Butch Grow.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Buena Vista, VA.
