Obituary for Edwin Ballard (Bob) Carter, III Edwin Ballard (Bob) Carter, III
Vietnam War Veteran Was Ntelos Retiree, First Christian Church Member

Edwin Ballard (Bob) Carter, III, 72, of 1607 Gravel Ridge Road, Covington, Virginia, died Thursday, December 21, 2017 at his residence.

He was born October 2, 1945, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Edwin B. Carter, Jr. and Opal Dove Perry Carter.

Bob served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Army.

He retired in 2000 from nTelos Communications after 32 years of service.

He was a member of the First Christian Church.

Surviving are his two sons, E.B. Carter IV and Lori Huffman and Joey and Debbie Carter, all of Covington; his daughter and son-law, Teresa and Jeff McCoy of Lexington; three grandchildren, Jaden McCoy, Kalyn O'Conner and her husband, J.B. O'Conner, and Christian Carter; two sisters, Susie Ayo and Nancy Winebriner and her husband, Wallace, all of Covington; several nieces and nephews and "Bella", his black and tan Beagle dog.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating.

Interment will be follow in the Carter Family Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by Curtis A. Smith Post #1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Pallbearers will be Jessie Carter, Rich Carter, Christian Carter, Paul Carter, John B. Carter, Robbie Hepler, Erskine Graves and Richie Surber. The family with receive friends Saturday, December 23, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to service time at the Arritt Funeral Home.

The family suggests that donations in Mr. Carter's name be made to the First Christian Church, 231 E. Fudge Street, Covington, VA 24426 or the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517
