Obituary for Dorothy E. Stamper Dorothy E. Stamper
Former Department Of Defense Employee Was Lexington Native

Dorothy E. Stamper, 93, of Buena Vista, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at her residence.

Born on January 15, 1924 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Hugh Stamper and Hester Cullen Stamper.

Dorothy was also preceded in death by her brother, Harvey Hugh Stamper Jr.

The Stamper family moved to Washington, D.C., in 1935 and in 1944, Dorothy joined the WAC and served during World War II at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

She received her BA degree from George Washington University in 1949 and worked in D.C. for 40 years until retiring to Buena Vista in 1989. Dorothy's government career in the Department of Defense focused on drafting, illustrating, and industrial design in electronics and missiles.

Dorothy was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Buena Vista. She was also a member of the DAR for 50 years and the Colonial Dames since 1995. She enjoyed painting, hiking, quilting, and gardening.

Surviving is her brother, C. William Stamper of Laurel, Del.; niece, Nancy Stamper Hewitt of Laurel, Del.; and many Cullen and Patterson cousins in Buena Vista.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 30 at Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Chapel with Dr. Louis Caddell officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
