Obituary for Joel Kent Mattox Joel Kent Mattox
Eagle Rock Resident Was Construction Worker, Living Stones Ministries Member

Joel Kent Mattox, age 58, of 15 Botany Drive, Eagle Rock, Virginia, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at his residence.

He was born July 17, 1960 in Bedford to Ada Tindell Mattox and the late Reverend William C. Mattox, Jr.

He worked construction throughout his life and was a member of Living Stones Ministries.

In addition to his father, Joel was preceded in death by a grandson, Hunter Gage Mattox and an aunt, Frona Mattox.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie Gibson Mattox of Eagle Rock; a daughter, Cherie Leighann Mattox of Eagle Rock; a son, Jay Kent Mattox and wife, Cordelia of Covington; three sisters, Melissa Mattox of Clifton Forge, and Betty Webster and Sherry Overstreet Phillips, both of Bedford; two brothers, Larry Mattox of Louisa and Nathan Mattox of South Carolina; a granddaughter; four nieces; and a special friend, Vicki Shules.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Edith Snedegar officiating, assisted by Ms. Vicki Shules. The family will visit with friends any time at the residence.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to either Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to the American Cancer Society.
