Gladys Mae Steele, 80, of Lexington, Virginia, died Monday, January 1, 2018 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 25, 1937 in Lexington, a daughter of the late Charles Albert Staton and Anna Bane Staton.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Steele.

Gladys was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Larry W. Barger; daughters, Linda G. Floyd and Marilyn L. Whitehead; brothers, Charles J. Staton and Thomas G. Staton; sisters, Estelle V. Burns and Nadine E. Hartless; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens by Pastor Michael Moyers.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
