Longdale United Methodist Church Member Dies At Age 77

Joseph Burton Hill III, age 77, of 5221 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville.

He was born May 5, 1940 in Seaford, Delaware, to the late Joseph Burton Hill, Jr. and Dorothy May Hitch Hill.

He graduated from Seaford High School Class of 1958 and served in the United States Navy. He was a general superintendent for PreCast Erectors and a member of Longdale United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Hill.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Linkswiler Hill of Longdale Furnace Road; four sons, David Hill of Arrington, TX, Kyle Hill of Hurst TX, Tracy Hill of Saginaw, TX, and Brett Thompson of Clifton Forge; a sister, Linda Whaley and two brothers, Brian Whaley and Kim Whaley, all of Delaware; five grandchildren, Kellan Hill, Aidan Hill, Brogan Hill, Peyton Hill, and Katelyn Hill; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Longdale United Methodist Church with Reverend Bill Bearden officiating.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Longdale United Methodist Church, 121 Church Road, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
