Obituary for Pauline (Polly) Thomas Pauline (Polly) Thomas
Longtime Educator Enjoyed Musical Performances

Pauline (Polly) Thomas died Saturday, January 6, 2018.

She was born to Mary and Eugene Ellingsworth on January 4, 1927.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her grandson, Jeffrey Brown.

Pauline was raised in Bridgeville, Delaware, and received her high school education there. She acquired her college education at Wesley Junior College in Dover, Delaware and University of Delaware in Newark, majoring in education and minoring in music. During her college years she received several scholastic and music awards. She loved music and sang in choirs and choruses all her life. She especially enjoyed singing solos in the choruses and at weddings and other events.

After graduation, Pauline taught elementary school for several years in Delaware and New Hampshire.

In 1957, Pauline married Dr. William K. Thomas, a United Methodist minister in the Virginia United Methodist Conference. He served several churches in Virginia while Pauline found part-time employment wherever they were located. Pauline and Bill retired to a home they built outside of Lexington, where she volunteered at the reference desk of the city library for 16 years. In 2009 they moved to the Summit Square Retirement Home in Waynesboro.

In addition to her husband, Pauline is survived by three daughters, Kelly Thomas, Linda Minetree (Ron), Paula Oxendine (Tom), and one son, Nat Thomas (Marjorie Hernandez, fiancée). She is also survived by grandchildren Tiffanie, Jennifer, and Maria and great-grandchildren Monika, Bronson, Ella, Summer, Ensley, and Tommy.

There will be a memorial service for Pauline at Trinity United Methodist Church on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 2 p.m. There will be a brief time for visitation with the family after the service in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a church or charity of your choice.
