Obituary for R. Wellington Johnson R. Wellington Johnson
U. S. Army Veteran Operated Greenbrier Real Estate For 25 Years

R. Wellington Johnson, 93, of Lewisburg, West Virginia passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the Peyton Hospice House.

Wellington was born on January 27, 1924 in Sinks Grove, WV to the late J. Dewitt and Mae Halstead Johnson.

He graduated from Union High School and attended Marshall University before enlisting in the Army, where he served in Korea and Germany.

Following his military service, he was employed for 36 years by the Farm Credit Service and then purchased Greenbrier Real Estate, which he operated for 25 years.

Wellington was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Fairlea, where he served as a deacon since 1960.

Other than his parents, Wellington is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Hilda S. Johnson; three brothers, Ray Johnson, Joe D. Johnson, and Edward L. Johnson, and a sister, Thelma Wilkerson.

Survivors include his sister, Faye Fleet, a son, John M. Johnson (Kim Carter) and two daughters, Jane Johnson Eggleston (Ron) and Ruth Bartenslager (Arthur). His grandchildren are Annie Lorensen, David Johnson, Zach Bartenslager, Alison Bartenslager, Abbie Bartenslager, Autumn Eggleston Fogel (Aaron), Kevin Eggleston (Iris) and a great-granddaughter Molly Sue Eggleston.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Fairlea with Dr. Dallas Smith officiating. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall at the church.

Friends may call on Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Fairlea.

Donations of sympathy may be made to the Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea or to the Shuck Memorial Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, 841 Washington Street West, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
