Obituary for Wesley Leland Snead, Sr. Wesley Leland Snead, Sr.
Korean War Veteran Was Retired CSX Engineer

Wesley Leland Snead, Sr., age 88, of 3107 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Thursday, January 17, 2018 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

He was born August 10, 1929 in Clifton Forge to the late Charles Sidnal Snead, Sr. and Anna Wentworth Johnson Snead.

He served in the United States Army as a transportation engineer during the Korean War and was a retired engineer for CSX Transportation.

He belonged to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, where he served as the Cemetery Overseer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Sidnal Snead, Jr. and Johnnie Wentworth Snead, and two sisters, Linda Carter and Marion White.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Fayne Nicely Snead of Clifton Forge; a son, Wesley L. Snead, Jr. and wife, Debbie of Clifton Forge; two sisters-in-law, Audrey Nicely and Dorothy Nicely, both of Clifton Forge; two granddaughters, Heather Lynn Hogan and husband, Vincent of Virginia Beach and Jill Susanne Wheelin and husband, Michael of Glen Allen; four grandchildren, Isabella Grace Hogan, Brady Michael Hogan, Abigail Kaylee Wheelin, and Mason Caleb Wheelin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with his pastor, Reverend Virgil Woodie officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Baptist Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Jerry Webb, Cletus Nicely, Terry Loving, Delmas Conner, Barry Daniel, Ralph Tucker, Buddy Buchanan, Stephen Nicely, and W. V. Nicely.

The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 227, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
