Joe Russell Sloan, 89, of Lexington, Virginia died Thursday, January 18, 2018 at his home.

He was born March 25, 1928 in Botetourt County, a son of the late Newman Russell Sloan and Ethel Perry Sloan.

Mr. Sloan was a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church and the Painter Mountain Hunt Club.

He retired as a logger.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia Frances Sloan; daughter, Patsy Sloan Edwards, and husband; son, Elwood R. Sloan and wife; sisters, Nadine S. McCallister and Shirley Sloan; two grandsons, and two great-grandsons.

The funeral was conducted Monday, January 22, 2018 at Harrison Funeral Home by Rev. Jim Bollinger officiating. Burial was private.

Arrangements were handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
