Obituary for Alma Jane Gillespie Alma Jane Gillespie
Longdale Native Dies At Age 94

Mrs. Alma Jane Gillespie, age 94, of Covington, Virginia, died Friday, January 26, 2018, at the Brian Center Nursing Care, Alleghany, Low Moor.

She was the wife of the late Porter Hamilton Gillespie.

Mrs. Gillespie was born August 3, 1923 in the Longdale section of Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Lonnie Ancle Robinson and Mildred Lucille Craft Robinson.

She was employed as a laborer in the Die House by the former Industrial Rayon. Mrs. Gillespie was a member of Edgemont Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Most of all, Alma enjoyed shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Gillespie is survived by a son, Troy Dee Gillespie and special friend, Rhonda Plumley; two grandchildren, Ryan Hamilton Gillespie and Courtney Leigh Gillespie; a brother, Harold Robinson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Gillespie was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Robinson and Thurman Robinson; and a sister, Laura Mae Gallow.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 29, 2018 at Central Advent Christian Church Cemetery with Rev. Donnie Bowker officiating. Those wishing to attend the service should assemble at Loving Funeral Home Monday afternoon from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Troy Gillespie, 600 Park Street, at other times.

Pallbearers will be James Morgan, Joe Hubble, Kenneth Helton, Steve Landis, Bobby Gillespie, Tony Smallwood, and Joe Hubble, Jr.

Honorable pallbearers will be Grady Haynes and Cecil Underwood.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Covington Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 588, Covington, VA 24426.
