Alleghany County Native Was Retired Carpenter

Garlen Harry (Monk) Snyder, 78, formerly of Lost City, WV, died Thursday, February 1, 2018 in Covington, Virginia.

Mr. Snyder was born October 10, 1939 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Harry C. and Frances McDaniel Snyder.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Arlen Snyder; two sisters, Charlotte Redman and Evelyn Wright, and one half-sister, Goldie Montgomery.

He retired from Rocko Processing as a carpenter and enjoyed fishing and hunting his entire life.

Surviving are two sisters, Margaret Harmon and husband, Wayne of Covington and Hazel Crawley of Salem; his sister-in-law, Pat Snyder; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece and caregiver, Tammy Perkins of Covington; and several great nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

The family suggests that donations in Mr. Snyder's name be made to Mountain Regional Hospice, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.

The Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia, handled the arrangements.
